History

What is the History of the Hall?
Quarnford memorial Hall was built as a memorial to men killed in the second world war and the stone construction was erected in 1954 supported by Quakers and local members of the community. Since then it has become an integral part of the community and is now the hub for social and fund raising events and activities in the local area. Having lost our school some years ago it became even more important to maintain and develop the activities in the Village Hall. The Hall is situated on the outskirts of Flash at 1519ft above sea level and is part of the Highest Village in Great Britain. Despite this, it has easy access from Buxton, Leek and the rural area of Quarnford. The Hall has hosted many events over the years ranging from family celebrations, the annual Rose Queen event, The Teapot Parade, Xmas Fair, Fashion Shows, fund raising events and National Celebrations ( ie: Jubilees, Commonwealth Day Flag Raising Ceremony). The Hall now houses the Post Office which offers a service to the community one day a week.

Who is responsible for the Hall?
The original charity was established by representatives of the following organisations: The Parish Council, The Trustees of Flash Methodist Chapel, The Committee of the Quarnford Methodist Youth Club and the Quarnford Parochial Church Council.  Since then the Trustees and  Committee have changed shape over the years but continue to follow the guidelines of the original governing instrument. Quarnford memorial Hall has charitable status. The Committee is voted in annually and all members can submit themselves for re-election. The current Commmittee has a Chairman, Financial Officer, Secretary, Bookings Manager and totals a team of 9.

What was the original purpose of the Hall?
The Trust deed states the Hall shall be held upon Trust ‘ for the purposes of physical and mental training and recreation and social moral and intellectual development through the medium of reading and recreation rooms recreations and entertainments or otherwise as may be found expedient for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Quarnford and its immediate vicinity’.
